Dear Reader,

PaL sign and boxWelcome!

This month has been a busy one for PaL - as well as the hustle and bustle of Purim (many tutors and partners reported how much they enjoyed sharing the festival in person or sending gifts of mishloach manos to each other) we have seen the 400th person signing up to learn through our programme!

I'm also delighted to announce the wonderful news that Tanya, our dedicated Follow Up Coordinator, is the proud mother of a beautiful baby boy, who much to his mother's relief made a somewhat late entrance into the world on 23 March! I'm sure Tanya will be back on the PaL phone lines very shortly, but in the meantime we wish her and her family a hearty mazal tov!

Warm wishes for a healthy, happy and kosher Pesach!

Questions from the PaL Mailbag...

Q: I would like to ensure that my home is properly kosher for Pesach this year but I am not in charge of the household and my family is not willing to make too many changes. What is the absolute minimum I must do to ensure that I am compliant with Jewish law?

A:  Here are a few guideline as to what must be done to prepare the home for Passover - and what is not strictly necessary in your particular situation.
a) It is not necessary to cover the shelves in cupboards (though they must be cleaned)
b)The oven must be cleaned well and any chametz burnt off
c)The dishwasher should be cleaned and left for 24 hours, and then run through on a cycle with dishwasher detergent.
d)All worktops should be covered
e)The sink should be cleaned and then boiling water poured over it
f)The hob must be cleaned and the pot stands covered
g)All vessels - plates, pots and so on - to be used during Pesach must be kashered or replaced. There is no easy way out of this one!

It is not necessary for you to clean your entire house, but you should make sure the kitchen and dining areas are clean and free of chametz. Any chametz products that you do not wish to use up or discard before Pesach must be sold, but this can easily be done via the Rabbi of your shul.
