Questions from the PaL Mailbag...
Q: Why is the holiday of Shavuos also known as Atzeres?
A: While the Torah offers three names for Shavuos, the Rabbis in the Mishnah and Talmud (see, for example Mishnah Rosh HaShanah 1:2) call the festival 'Atzeres', meaning 'end point' or 'conclusion'.  This is because Shavuos, which celebrates the Revelation, represents the grand finale of the Exodus.  G-d's purpose in bringing the Jews out of Egypt was that they should accept His law at Mount Sinai (see Shemos 3:12), and, as such, Shavuos completes Pesach and the count of the Omer that links them.
